Happy Happy Day

.

I’m so super duper happy.  You know that happiness you have when someone decides they want to buy your stuff, well times that by 4 today as somehow, someway (which I am actually going to call it answered prayer) I was able to get 4 sales this past weekend, actually not even this weekend, yesterday.  I’m still waiting on two of them to go through, but still how exciting is that.  Not that I’m going to do much with it except put the majority of in back into the business to get supplies but still, I’m so excited to be able to pick out new yarn colors and/or maybe some other ideas I have rolling around in my head for items to sell.  Super excited, can you tell.

Anyways..enough ranting about that.  I was actually excited to blog about something else that I even took specific pictures for..lol  Probably kind of boring to most, but something else that made me excited (doesn’t take much right).  This weekend, I pulled out my old back of tricks..the ones many people use so they aren’t mine but one that I had set aside once I became a mommy and started staying at home.  I actually sat down and planned out this weeks menu, not necessarily by day, but at least the meals.  THEN, I actually did all of the basic prep for these meals, shopped onion, peppers, and mushrooms..browned meat ahead of time for those types of meals.  I was able to get some Ziploc containers at the store last week for .75 each with coupons..2/$4 and I have $2.50 worth of coupons on two (should have picked up 4 but whatever), so I used those and actually divided up the veggies and put sets in containers, so all I have to do is pull  it out of the fridge and dump..WOOHOO.  I had a blast doing it..and now I won’t be bothered by it this week.  I have to remember to do this every week.

I am back

I bet you didn’t even know I was missing.  Shortly after my Monday post..the cord on my laptop died..which in turn ended up with a dead laptop.  We have a desktop that I have been doing basic activities on because although less than a year older than the laptop it is ssssllllllooooowwww.  So..either way..I have a new cord now (thanks to Ebay..very cheap) and am back in action.  The store did suffer a little considering no new hearts and only a few new views. Oh well, I did get some things done.  I finished the baby blanket that I had started and will be blocking it and hopefully listing it as made to order next week.  I have also start doing some wall hanging embroidery pieces.  I am working from a vintage hillbilly pattern right now.  Then on to some snowmen for Christmas.  I know..not a very interesting entry today..not much to talk about.  Unfortunately, I’m not to sure I managed any ROAK this week, which I feel bad about..I was all gung ho and then nothing this week.  I am planning on making something to take to a local nursing home next week though.  As for the week before, I did end up getting a small sale and sent a little over 30% of that sale to the young lady in need, I wish it was more..but I did what I could.  Anyways..hoping to be back in action in full next week, next week  I will hit my 30th post so I will be adding project wonderful to this blog, I will hopefully be adding at least 3 items to the store next week as well..so keep a look out.

I forgot to mention we were featured on another blog this week..very exciting stuff.

Some Very Random Thoughts

.

Does letting a pregnant lady go in front of my in the line to the bathroom count as a raok or is that just common courtesy....I'm thinking it's common...I mean no matter how bad I have to go she's got to go worse...after all I don't have a baby sitting on my bladder (at least not yet ;) )

What should I get dd for her second birthday? She received a doll from one of her grandmother's this past weekend, which was the main thing I was going to get her. This one is great and she loves it, but I'm thinking of still getting her another one..one she can change the diapers and one that I can find clothes to fit and such. The one she received in 12in but most clothing and accessories sets I've seen are for the 14in. Of course I have to check Etsy as well.

I think I'm loving the cold front moving through, although I'm not sure about having to change my layers of clothes throughout the day to match to go with the weather.

Random Acts of Kindness

.

A random idea came to me last night as I was reading our MOPS book for this year.  Well..maybe not so random as they mentioned similar to this in it.  I’ve decided I need to start making some kind of impact on my community.  A little background on how we ended up moving to this little town..our Pastor and good friend moved here to take over a church, since is a. a good friend, b. the one the married us, and c. his family had been praying for a couple years for us to have a little one, we decided to make a trip down here to have her dedicated at his new church.  At that point we found out really what a drug problem this little town has.  When we came home we were praying for direction because things were not going well for us in MI and we really felt God telling us to move here so DH could get involved, helping to get one person clean at a time..or whoever God brings him.  So..we moved and DH has started little bits here and there towards making an impact.

So, with that big picture I’ve really felt that I should be doing something..I want to make some sort of difference in some bodies life or lives.  For now I’m going to start small, I will focus on doing at least one random act of kindness a week, I know lame right..but it’s something.  Some weeks it might be something bigger and some weeks it might be something small.  This week it’s a small thing and I’m not sure it’s going to work but I am donating 30% of my sales (if I get any which is why it’s small) to a fellow Etsian who’s mother is terminally ill and could use some help with travel expenses to be with her.  Next, week..I’ve got ideas but you will have to read next week to find out.

I do want to include some pictures from a treasury that was created for this cause. Click on any of the pictures to take you to the treasury

More Toddler Antics

You know that wonderful laugh, that one that comes with a squeal of delight, that one that you just can’t help but laugh with yourself. Well, I have learned over the last few weeks that although I love that laugh, if it is happening and it’s not directly related to DH or I doing something to cause it, it’s probably not a good thing. This laugh usually involved our 8m old yorkie, who by 012nature is a rambunctious dog, hyper as all get up. Our little one has discovered that she can attempt to pick up Puppy (yes that’s her name, an a whole other story), which of course usually equals the wonderful belly laugh as the poor puppy tries to wiggle and wrestle her way free. She has discovered that the puppy will jump on her and chase her if she holds the puppy’s toy just out of reach, which all the while puppy is jumping and yapping. It’s a crazy life.

Let’s see..shop talk. I am working on listing a ton of soap savers. They seem to be a popular item, even if they aren’t purchase..lol I have them in 9 different color right now and will be listing them slowly (to stay searchable). Right now I have, tan, white, light blue, lavender, yellow/white, red, hot pink, hot blue, and a natural variegated.

The Toddler

..so full of amazement and curiosity...which tends to also equal much frusterations for the parents. What is so interesting and fun to this little one...the pet's food and water. She would find (if I let her) hours...well okay minutes..of fascination feeding the dog her food by hand...dipping her hands in their water and shaking it off, scooping the food into the water...or scooping the water onto the floor...and of course last night was the dipping her paci into the their water and sticking it back in her mouth..which I did catch her before it made it there.

Good Morning..Happy Monday. Yup, that’s right..I said it Happy Monday. I am determined to have a good day, I am determined that I am going to stay at home today and hopefully most of the week. I tend to do A LOT of running around and I’m tired of going everywhere, so I’m taking a week off and will leave the house only minimally. There I have said, now we will see if it will actually happen.

So, I was thinking of a gift to give to the wonderful lady who gave me a ton of tomato’s to dice up and can (which I have discovered is one of the grossest things every but I’m sure it will be worth it). She is such a kind and wonderful woman, I wanted to do a little something special for her. So, what I did was crochet up a dish cloth, used it to wrap a small jar of the strawberry jam I made, tied it up with some matching spare yarn, and added one of my Mom’s gift tags to it for the special touch. This also got me thinking about what a great hostess gift this would make. Unfortunately, I’m not sure whether or not I could sell this as a set as I am not food certified or whatnot so there would be a fear I’m sure of purchasing the jam from me. What a bummer, maybe in the future or maybe I can figure some other way to list is as a possibility.

A couple of fun things for you...I am starting a mailing list. I will be sending out a newsletter (hopefully monthly) which will include a few different feature sections as well as discounts especially for the memeber, so make sure you sign up in the side bar.

I also wanted to let you know that I just listed these dish clothes..Guacamole...love the colors...also played around a little bit with the pictures. A very special lady from our church gave me a whole pile of tomatos to can, so I thought they would make a fun background to the great colors in these dish clothes.

Today's Random Contemplations About the Store
It seems that I have come to some sort of crossroads with trying to make this store work. I feel like I spend so much time promoting and not enough to time creating, which isn't the items in your store ultimately suppose to promote themselves (as long as they stay visible). I have the supplies to make 3 more sets of dish cloths and one of the second set of towels, so shouldn't I focus more on those. I also have difficulties taking the photo's of my products and of course that is ubber important but I just can't seem to get them as clear as others. I have just accepted the fact, thanks to my feedback, that my items are selling worthy, that my items are worth people paying for, but I am still struggling with finding my niche. I get so excited when I list a new type item that I think will be a big hit only to have them turn out to be a complete dud (which I know is not suppose to be a personal thing but I can't help but take it a little personal) or have to go on the forums to get people to even look at them. I'm sure many of you feel the same way I do..confused, maybe a bit frustrated. I also know that I have come a LONG way since I really started working on it this past June, from one sale (which was my mother) to 15. I can say that even one sale is enough to give me a natural happy high for days..I get very excited that someone actually wants something I make, but there is always the anticipation and let down of waiting for the next sale that as the days and weeks go buy just gets worse and worse. I also know that summer is a slow season and it will hopefully pick up in a month or so. I also know that many time my ideas and dreams are bigger than what reality really is. All in all, I will stick it out until at least the end of the year and see what happens. My goal is to get at least one sale a week..preferably two, I don't think due to some of my time constraints I would be able to handle keeping up with more than that as far as creating goes. I need to figure out what the most effective ways are for me to advertise. I need to start focusing more on creating than sitting on the forums waiting for someone to want something. All in all...I need to stop worrying about trying to make this work..I mean hey...if I it doesn't work then I have a lot of Christmas presents already made right.. :)

I think it's safe to say that I am done canning for now...at least until apple season. This was the first year that I attempted any canning and I have to say that it all came out pretty well. I managed 24 jars of green beans, 24 jars of strawberry jam, and 16 jars of apricot pineapple jam. Of course, after doing all of this I realized that there is no way that we will use that must jam in the next year..so I'm thinking I will be including some jars in my annual Christmas goodie baskets, maybe pairs up with some homemade jam. I'm also planning on doing some applesauce and maybe some sweet apple cider jelly. I would also love to do some diced tomato's if I can get my hands on some extras so maybe I won't be done just yet.

I'm also very excited to have finally finished the kitty towels. I listed them one etsy yesterday. You can click on the picture and it will take you to the listing for more information.
I have also started a store at http://www.shophandmade.com/Store/Funnyface12345. It seems to be a smaller start up site..not sure how much traffic they get, however there are no fees, all of the listings are sponsored through outside sources. I guess we will see how it goes.
I've been thinking about doing some daily features..what would you like to see? Do you like the idea of the grocery savings feature, other etsy stores, or maybe some favorites. Let me know what you think.
Have a happy Tuesday!!!
